Just Caring
What started out as a wee fundraising campaign by Sandwick Bay Candles Owner, Megan Macdonald, to raise funds for Bethesda Care Home and Charity Shop on the Isle of Lewis, has now become a raffle of dreams, raising nearly £20,000 in donations! Megan set up the campaign to try and raise £2000 to help Bethesda weather the current Covid-19 outbreak. She had planned to giveaway a hamper worth £100. But things went wild when businesses not just on the island, but across Scotland, started donating prizes towards the campaign. Megan is now 959% over her initial target, at just over £19,100 (and growing). When Megan reaches £20,000 in donations, The Crown Inn Hotel in Stornoway will donate food for life to one lucky person.
The raffle ends on the 29th of April, so get your donations in (we know we will – if anything just to surf on Harris!). There are lots of amazing prizes up for grabs. Check em’ out!
Gifting Me Gifting You
Blue Reef Cottages has donated a 2-night stay to the worthy cause. Salka Jewellery has donated £100 of sea glass jewellery towards the raffle. Sea glass is my everything. Stramash Ness has donated a hamper of goodies. Moorfield Cottage donated a WHOLE week in the Winter. Sundown Cottage has donated a 2-night stay! The Hebrides Bothy has donated a 1-night stay.
Amongst all of those lovely donations, there are also vouchers, cards, gift-wraps, haircuts, beauty treatments, sweeties and more. The Isle of Harris Distillery has donated a Martini Serve Set. There are plenty of Harris Tweed donations, whiskies and restaurant vouchers. Someone has even donated a £25 Xbox voucher from their birthday presents! How sweet huh?!
Shining Beacon
This is a shining beacon of people helping people during one of the toughest times our generation has experienced. Covid-19 has touched every part of the world, including the remote Outer Hebrides. The Bethesda Care Home relies on funding from both the island charity shop, which has had to close, but also to various fundraising events. If you can spare just £2 for a ticket, you’ll be helping a very worthy cause.
